Liverpool Rejects Luton to Donate the Gate Money of the Third Round FA Cup Match

Liverpool is going to play Luton Town in the third round match in FA Cup. Luton club is now going through a financial constraint and they have asked for help from Liverpool to donate its gate money to be earned from the match. However, Liverpool has turned the offer down. Luton players have not been paid fully in the last nine weeks as the league one club is undergoing a financial problem. That is why, Luton wanted Liverpool to donate a handsome amount for the club.

Times Online reported:

Luton are losing about £400,000 a month and went into administration in November. Their players have been paid only 2½ weeks’ wages in the past nine weeks. The club’s joint-administrator, Brendan Guilfoyle, asked the Barclays Premier League club if they were willing to forgo a share of the revenue from the tie, but was rebuffed.

“They probably said, ‘We have to pay players £100,000 a week. You must be joking, otherwise we will be like you,’ ” Kevin Blackwell, the Luton manager, said. “You just have to accept it. There are people in life who have got a Rolls-Royce while some people have a Mini. We are Mini drivers.”

Luton Town manager Kevin Blackwell is also donating his wages for the club. From the television broadcasting of the upcoming match, both Liverpool and Luton will get £150,000 each. Moreover, an additional £100,000 will also go to the accounts of both clubs. So, if Liverpool agreed to donate then Luton could get £ 250,000 from this match.

Well, this is not the responsibility of Liverpool to solve the financial problem of Luton Town. Rather, it is the responsibility of management of the club. However, they can ask the major premier league clubs to play a few friendly matches and make some cash in. The major premier league clubs can also help Luton Town out in this way. However, it may not possible for a club to donate the money earned from a match totally as they have lots of expenditure as well. Now, let us hope Luton will come out from their financial problem very soon.

Liverpool Getting out of the Championship Race with Draw against Wigan Athletic

Liverpool is gradually getting out of the championship race now. They have lost point once again in premiership being held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic. With this draw, Liverpool is now 12 points behind leader Arsenal with a match at hand. A lot have been written on their inconsistent performance in the last few seasons. Now, it seems that Liverpool is losing their pace.

In the stalemate against Wigan Athletic, the all reds took the lead in the 49^th minute with Fernando Torres scoring. However, Wigan Athletic leveled the score with the 80^th minute equalizer of Titus Bramble. In the post match reaction, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said that they did not have the luck in the match as Wigan capitalize from their only chance of the match.

Herald Sun reported:

"We need to do everything nearly perfect now," Benitez said when asked if his side's title challenge was over.
"When you lose points like today it's very difficult.
"They had just one chance and drew. In games like this you sometimes just need some luck."

Well, the main thing is that Liverpool is losing points matches after matches and thus getting out of the title race for another frustrating year. Now, let us see if Rafa Benitez’s boys can make a strong come back in premiership this season.

Liverpool Vs Portsmouth: Live Score and Live Updates

http://football-cricket.blogspot.com/2007/12/liverpool-vs-portsmouth-live-score-and.html

There are just few hours left before the start of Carling Cup quarter final match between Chelsea and Liverpool. Carling Cup is one of the annual tournaments in English football but it is not that much prestigious like English Premier League and FA Cup. It is League Cup and according to its current sponsor, it is now called Carling Cup. League Cup or Carling Cup may not be important for Premier League sides like Chelsea and Liverpool but today’s match has become important for these two clubs because last Sunday, both Chelsea and Liverpool lost in Premier league match to their opponents.

Chelsea is going to face Liverpool at their home ground Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup today. The match is now the center of all attention. Chelsea vs Liverpool match is obviously a high profile match and fans of both sides wish to see their players dominating over the others. Now, ahead of the Chelsea vs Liverpool match, both the teams have experienced defeat this week in English premier league match. Chelsea lost to Arsenal whereas Liverpool failed to impress at their home ground being defeated by Manchester United. So, both teams will try their best to win the match and get the confidence back ahead of the next week EPL matches.

Chelsea will play at their home ground. So, they will get the support of home crowd ahead of the match against Liverpool. Chelsea now stands third in the league point table of EPL. So, a win over Liverpool can boost up their confidence level ahead of some more crucial matches in this season. So, winning the match is badly needed for Chelsea at this moment. Last season, they have lost their premiership title to Manchester United. That is why, fans are hoping to see their players playing inspirational football from now on and bring the premier league title to the club.

Interestingly, Liverpool also stands in the same position at this moment. Having lost to Manchester United this week at their home ground was a setback for the club. As they continue showing their inconsistent performance this season, now it is a ‘do or die’ situation for Liverpool to get their form back and play according to their class. Perhaps, this is the only way the Reds can finish the premier league with their sought after premier league title. Liverpool stands fifth in the point table of EPL and way behind from other premier league contenders.

What is more, Liverpool will miss their captain Steven Gerrard in the match against Chelsea because of his illness. However, midfielder Xabi Alonso is expected to be come back with this match after suffering from a metatarsal injury for 10 weeks. However, Daniel Agger will be out of this match because of his foot injury. So, it seems that Liverpool will not be able to face Chelsea with their full strength. So, in the absence of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool will have to get something impressive from other midfielders like Ryan Babel. Peter Crouch will also have a big part to play against Chelsea.

In the same way, Chelsea also has some injury woes ahead of their match against Liverpool. Their inform striker Didier Drogba is currently suffering from knee injury and will be out of the match. No doubt, Didier Drogba is now in his prime form and has been impressive throughout this season. Besides, Michael Ballack may come back through this match since his failing in injury last April. So, Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko must play well in order to fill up the void of the absence of Didier Drogba.

It is tough to predict anything when two high profile teams play against each other. However, what is obvious is that the match is going to be an exciting one. Players will try to show their best and get back their form and help their teams bounce back after the early setback of this week.

I know that many of you will not be able to manage your time to watch the match because of personal and professional works. So, here I am giving some links of websites from where you can get the online live score and updates of Chelsea vs Liverpool match:

In last Sunday, Chelsea lost to Arsenal and Liverpool lost to Manchester United. The defeat has perhaps put Liverpool out of the Premier League title race for this season. The defeat has also dampened Chelsea’s position in Premier league. So, they have to take the League Cup more seriously now. In August 2007, Liverpool played against Chelsea in Premier League match and the match ended 1-1 draw. Liverpool played very well in that match but they were unlucky not to win it.

Chelsea is the current winner of League Cup. On the other hand, Liverpool has won the title of League Cup for record 7 number of times.

This is also an important match for the two coaches. Liverpool coach is under immense pressure from the fans to perform. Liverpool is not playing badly in Europe but their form is miserable in the premier League (EPL). On the other hand, Chelsea coach Avram Grant is under almost same kind of pressure. Chelsea has the richest team in England and the fans and the owners of the club expect nothing but success. So, you can easily realize the importance of Carling Cup Chelsea vs Liverpool match tonight.

Many people in South Asia are fans of English Premier League clubs. So, they will love to watch this match. Good thing is that Carling Cup Chelsea vs Liverpool will be broadcast live in Zee Sports TV channel. The coverage of the match will start from 1 Am Indian Time and 1:30 AM Bangladesh Standard time. So, if you have Zee Sports in your TV then don’t miss live telecast of Chelsea vs Liverpool match.

I like to catch your attention about one thing. You can watch English Premier League live in ESPN and Star Sports TV channels. But for Carling Cup live action, you have to tune to Zee Sports.

Portsmouth vs Arsenal: Live Score and Live Updates

http://football-cricket.blogspot.com/2007/12/portsmouth-vs-arsenal-live-score-and.html

Liverpool will take on Portsmouth in their upcoming premier league match on 22 December 2007. The match will be held at the Anfield stadium of Liverpool. So, it is a big chance for Liverpool to bounce back in the premier league after their recent defeat to Manchester United by 1-0 at their home ground. On the other hand, Portsmouth has also experienced a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur this week. So, it seems that both the teams will try to come back in the competition winning the match. Interestingly, both Liverpool and Portsmouth have achieved 30 points in English premier league this season so far. However, Liverpool has played a match less.

To tell the truth, Liverpool is a balanced side and they have some talented footballers who have the ability to win over any team in their days. However, those days hardly come for LiverpoolLiverpool has been inconsistent this season in terms of performance. They now stand fifth in the league table with 30 points from 16 matches. It is obvious that it does not go with the class of Liverpool and they have the quality to bring out something more in English premier league. now-a-days.

There was a big chance for Liverpool to come back in the competition in style this week. However, they lost the chance being defeated by Manchester United. This was the second consecutive premier league defeat for Liverpool as they had lost their last week match against Reading as well. So, you need not to be a specialist to understand the current performance of Liverpool. If this is the one side of the coin then the other side of the coin is that they have recently defeated Olympique Marseille by 4-0 in their crucial Champions league match and thus confirmed their place in the knock out stage. So, it shows how much inconsistent their performance of this season is.

For Portsmouth, they have nothing to lose. Though they have lost to Tottenham Hotspur this week, their overall performance this season is not disappointing at all. They have got 30 points in 17 matches so far this season. If this statistics is not enough to impress you then let me inform you that they were promoted to FA Premier League in 2003. So, it is obviously an impressive performance from Portsmouth. They have been improving gradually since their joining premier league. Last season, they finished 9^th in the league table. Now, they stand 7^th in this season and they must be inspired enough to record their ever best perform in English premier league in 2007-2008 season. So, Portsmouth is expected to come up with inspirational football against Liverpool as I said earlier that they hardly have anything to lose at this situation. Rather, they have the stage set to win everything in this season.

Liverpool will obviously play all out against Portsmouth in order to clinch a superb victory over Portsmouth at their home ground before their supporters. However, remembering the fact that Portsmouth has lost only three matches so far this season. It indicates their unity as a team and their strength in the defense. When the whole teams shows sheer determination and confidence, it becomes harder for the high profile teams to claim the three points.

Liverpool has some quality players in each of the departments. However, Steven Gerrard has an injury problem and that is why he will miss Carling Cup quarter final match against Chelsea. However, it is not sure yet if he will be fit before Liverpool takes on Portsmouth next Saturday. The good news for Liverpool is that midfielder Xabi Alonso is expected to be fit enough to take part in the match against Portsmouth. However, defender Daniel Agger is yet to be fit to participate in the match.

On the other hand, Portsmouth does not have any injury problem ahead of the match against Liverpool. Midfielder Papa Bouba Diop and Sulley Muntari are now in good form at this moment. Among the forwards Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka have earlier proven their worth and are main strength of the side. However, to me, the main strength of Portsmouth is their defense. Defenders Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin have been playing excellent this season. So, Liverpool strikers will face strong challenge from Portsmouth defenders.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Live Score and Updates

The much talked EPL match, Liverpool vs Manchester Untied will take place within less than 24 hours. Manchester United has some good record at Liverpool home ground Anfield. So, Manchester United is going to Anfield with sheer confidence. On the other hand, Liverpool has got a huge blow being defeated to Reading by 3-1 last week in English premier league.

Liverpool missed their midfielder Xabi Alonso in that match as he was out of the squad over the last two months due to metatarsal injury. However, the good news for Liverpool fans is that Xabi Alonso is recovering from his injury and is expected to return in the match against Manchester United. Moreover, Liverpool’s Argentine recruit Javier Mascherano is likely to become fit before they face Manchester United. However, Steve Finnan and Daniel Agger have hardly any chance to appear against Manchester United.

Anyway, winning this match is badly needed for Liverpool who are now seven points behind the point table leader Arsenal. On the other hand, Manchester United is just a point behind Arsenal meaning they may reach at the top of league table if they can win over Liverpool on Sunday.

Who do you think is going to win the match at the Anfield stadium?

Carling Cup Chelsea vs Liverpool Live Score and Updates

http://football-cricket.blogspot.com/2007/12/carling-cup-chelsea-vs-liverpool-live_20.html

Liverpool is the most successful English club at this moment with highest 18 premier league titles to their credit. Liverpool has also won Champions League title for five times so far. Many great footballers have played for Liverpool with sheer success both in domestic and European league. The club’s origin traces back to 1892. So, the club also carries some historical value. Today, I made a list of ten greatest Liverpool players of all time.

It is not possible to go beyond argument when it comes to make a list of top ten of all time. So, you may not feel satisfied with the list of players given below. I want to make myself clear beforehand saying that the players are of my personal choices and you may have your personal opinion over the matter. Here, I am giving the names of all of the ten Liverpool players of all time with a short introduction:

Kenneth Dalglish

Known as ‘King Kenny’, this Scottish forward is considered to be the greatest Liverpool player ever. With 172 goals to his credit, he is still in the list of highest goal scorer of Liverpool of all time. Kenneth Dalglish was the first player who got 100 goals both in English and Scottish league. Though he is best known for his successes with Liverpool, Kenneth Dalglish started his club football career with Celtic where he played from 1969 to 1977. However, interestingly he was a big fan of Rangers, the rival club of Celtic in Scottish league, from his childhood.

Kenneth Dalglish started playing football as a goal keeper in his school. However, he turned out to become a forward later on. Kenneth Dalglish joined Liverpool in 1977 and continued playing till the end of his club football career. In his illustrious career, he appeared in 355 matches for Liverpool. From 1985, he served Liverpool as a player cum manager. He brought the first ever ‘Double’ title for Liverpool in his first season as player cum manager in 1985-86.

Kenneth Dalglish spent his last season with Liverpool in 1990 leading the club to their last English premier league title so far. In Liverpool, he won 8 league championship titles, 2 FA Cup wins, 3 European Cup wins, 4 League Cup wins, 1 European Super Cup win and 5 Charity Shield wins. Besides an outstanding club football career, Kenneth Dalglish also had a superb international career with Scotland. He was the first Scottish player to have won 100 appearances for national team and he still holds the highest scoring record for Scotland with 30 goals jointly with Denis Law.

Ian Rush

Ian Rush is another great footballer who played for Liverpool with sheer dominance. This Welsh striker spent his prime time with Liverpool in two stints. Ian Rush first joined Liverpool in 1980 and continued there before he moved to Italy to join Juventus in 1987. However, he came back to Liverpool in the following season. Ian Rush went on to play for Liverpool till 1996.

Ian Rush was the attacking partner of Kenny Dalglish in Liverpool. Along with Kenny Dalglish, he brought many successes for Liverpool. Ian Rush holds many scoring records both for Liverpool and for his country. He is the highest goal scorer for Liverpool with 346 goals. Moreover, with 28 international goals for Wales, Ian Rush is still the highest goal scorer for Liverpool. He was awarded with the European Golden Boot in 1984 besides two other prestigious awards- PFA Players' Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year in the same year. Just a year earlier, Ian Rush won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Alan Hansen

To many football fans of our generation, the name Alan Hansen does not mean that much. In fact, many of us hardly know anything about Alan Hansen. However, to any Liverpool fan, this is a familiar name. Alan Hansen played in Liverpool at the late 70s and total 80s. He played in 434 matches for Liverpool from 1977-1990 and he scored 8 goals. He was a defender and he also captained Liverpool club at its finest team. Under his captaincy, Liverpool won the league title and FA Cup in 1986. This is a rare achievement for any club in England.

Alan Hansen was an inspiring personality to the Liverpool fans. After the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, he attended the funerals of many supporters and visited the houses of some fans to support them. This shows that Alan Hansen was more than a professional footballer. Alan Hansen is unlucky because he did not get enough opportunities in Scotland National Team. Secondly, Scotland was not a strong team that he would get a lot of media coverage. Nevertheless, he is a legend in Liverpool club and he is still entertaining the football fans with his expertise in BBC football coverage.

Kevin Keegan

Kevin Keegan is one of the finest players that played for Liverpool and England. He was not that tall (5 feet 8 inches) but he was fast and loved to score goals as a forward. Kevin Keegan played for Liverpool from 1971 to 1977 and he scored 68 goals from 231 matches. He was captain of the team for some time and Kevin Keegan took part in some of the most memorable matches in the history of Liverpool. Kevin Keegan also played for a German Club and he was elected European Player of the Year twice- a remarkable achievement that no English footballer could achieve before or after him. This shows how much a great player Kevin Keegan was.

Kevin Keegan was a charismatic player and coach. He saw some notable success as the coach of New Castle United and Manchester City. He took both the clubs in Premier League and then inspired them to become one of the top clubs. Kevin Keegan was also the captain of English national team. He was also the coach of England national team. So, he experienced football at its finest. He was voted as one of the top ten Liverpool players by the fans.

Ray Clemence

A good team needs a good goalkeeper. Without a good goalkeeper, you can never dream of having a successful team. What kind of a goalkeeper Ray Clemence was? Let me tell you two simple facts. 1. Ray Clemence was the goalkeeper of Liverpool for 14 years and he was the goalkeeper of Tottenham Hotspur for 7 years. 2. Ray Clemence was the goalkeeper of England national team for 11 years. These two facts are enough to establish the fact that Ray Clemence was one of the finest goalkeepers in the history of England. He played in 1982 World Cup. He has a lot of medals in club football under his belt. He tasted First Division Title (5 times), He also tasted a number of European success and FA Cup. He played in 470 matches for Liverpool.

Ian Callaghan

Any list of Top Ten Best Liverpool players would surely be incomplete without Ian Callaghan. He played only 4 matches for England national team and his national career was insignificant. However, his record for Liverpool is not only impressive but also perhaps unbreakable. He played the most number of matches for Liverpool- 856 appearances. A record no Liverpool player could break until now. In fact, he played for the club from 1960-1978. He scored 69 goals too as a winger. When he started playing for Liverpool, Liverpool was in the second division. He tasted first division championship 5 times. Ian Callaghan was also a member of the 1966 England World Cup team that won the world cup that year.

Emlyn Walter Hughes

Walter Hughes played for Liverpool in 1967-1979. This was an interesting time for the club. In fact, Liverpool was not one of the top giants in English football in 1967. That time, it was a mediocre team. Walter Hugest was a defender and he had impressive performance both for his country and club. He took part in 62 matches for England national team while for Liverpool, he appeared in 474 matches. He was captain of both England and Liverpool. He died a tragic death in 2004 after suffering from brain cancer.

Phil Thompson

This center defender of Liverpool also spent most of his career with Liverpool. This English defender played 340 matches for Liverpool scoring 7 times. From his childhood, Phil Thompson was a fan of Liverpool. At the age of 17 he sighed for his dream club Liverpool in 1971. Phil Thompson continued to play for Liverpool till 1984 before his transfer to Sheffield United. He won seven English premier league championship titles with Liverpool. In fact, he saw the golden time of Liverpool with some great footballers in every department. This talented defender appeared for England national team in 42 matches. However, he could not be able to as much successful in England team as he was in his club football career.

John Barnes

His full name is John Charles Bryan Barnes. This Jamaican born English midfielder played for Liverpool from 1987 to 1997. However, he started his career in club football in 1981 with Watford at the age of 17. After spending some successful seasons in Watford, he came to join Liverpool where he played 314 matches with 84 goals. When he joined Liverpool in 1987, John Barnes got Kenneth Dalglish as player cum manager in Liverpool. He also played 79 matches for England national team with 12 goals. After his retirement, John Barnes managed Scottish club Celtic in 1999-2000.

Billy Liddell

Billy Liddell is considered to be one of most famous wingers of Liverpool. It is obvious that in 1940’s and 1950’s Billy Liddell was the most popular player of Liverpool side. Throughout his club football career, he played for Liverpool. Billy Liddell joined Liverpool in 1939 and ended his career in 1961. So, you can realize the contribution of Billy Liddell to Liverpool. However, his career was shortened due to the Second World War by six years. He led Liverpool to win league title in 1947.

It is true that Liverpool was not a strong side in English league at the time Rather, Billy Liddell’s excellent performance helped Liverpool to avoid relegation in several seasons before the side finally relegated in 1953-1954. The same year, Billy Liddell was given the captaincy of Liverpool aiming to the revival of the club. However, he could not be able to lead Liverpool to get promotion till his retirement. Appearing in 494 matches for Liverpool, he has 216 goals to his credit. With this record, he scored once in every 2⅓ games. Billy Liddell played 29 matches for Scotland national team with scoring 8 times. This great footballer died of Alzheimer's disease in 2001.

I know that many of you are thinking about some other great players who could have been included in the list. Yes, I also agree with you on this regard. It was really very hard to exclude some of those great players who also contributed a lot to Liverpool. However, I was bound to pick up only ten players for this list. Here, I would like to share some more names who could have been in the list. They are- Roger Hunt, Gordon Hodgson, Steve Heighway, Graeme Souness, Michael Owen, Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy, Robbie Fowler, James Carragher, Luis García, Tommy Smith etc.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Rafael Benítez Now under Pressure

English club Liverpool is now placed fourth at the league point table with 30 points, seven points behind leading Arsenal. So, it is clear that they can not afford any slip off at this moment in order to keep themselves in the championship race. They are now going to face second placed Manchester United on Sunday at their home ground in a crucial English premier league match. However, manager Rafael Benítez is now facing lots of criticism after the team’s last week defeat to Reading by 1-3. The owners of Liverpool, George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks are coming to Liverpool this weekend to meet Rafael Benitez aiming to talk over the inconsistent performance of Liverpool this season.

So, it seems that ahead of the match against Manchester United, Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez is now also under pressure. Liverpool has won a crucial Champions league match on Tuesday last week against Marseille that ensured their place at the knock out stage. The main problem of Liverpool club is that they are continuously showing inconsistent performance in both English premier league as well as in Champions league.

Rafael Benitez joined Liverpool in 2004. Liverpool has won their fifth Champions league title in 2005 under his direction. However, Liverpool has failed to win their most sought after English premier league title which they got last time in 1990. However, ahead of his upcoming meeting with the club owners Rafael Benítez said:

“I am not worried about the meeting. It is clear we are trying to do the best for our club and the owners are trying to do the same. I have not spoken to them [since the rift] but I have spoken through Foster Gillett [George's son and a club director] a lot and we know more about the situation because of that”

He claimed that Liverpool was moving in the right direction. Regarding his meeting with the club owners, he also stated that they would be meeting in order to find a solution to the misunderstanding. Moreover, he was hopeful to repair their relationship.

Well, I think, Rafael Benítez is trying his best to bring more success for Liverpool. He led Liverpool to win the Champions league in 2005 and Liverpool was also the finalist in Champions league last season. So, I think, club owners should be given some more time to Rafael Benítez to expect more success. However, no doubt, Rafael Benítez will feel some pressure ahead of the match against Manchester United.

Real Madrid leads in Group C along with Olympiacos as both the teams have 8 points each. German club Werder Bremen is in third place with 6 points, a point ahead of Lazio. So, the situation seems to be harder for Lazio to make it to the next round. Real Madrid vs Lazio match will be held at the Real home ground Bernabeu stadium on 11 December 2007.

Both Real Madrid and Lazio have won their last match in domestic league. Real Madrid has defeated Athletic Bilbao with the only goal of Ruud van Nistelrooy. Moreover, they could not experience any defeat in the last 24 matches of Champions league at home since their defeat to Arsenal at the knock out stage in 2006.

For Real Madrid, striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is now in his prime form. This Dutch forward has already scored 7 goals so far in this tournament. Moreover, Brazilian midfielder Júlio Baptista is expected to appear in the first line up against Lazio and he is expected to play a big part for Real Madrid. However, Real Madrid will most probably miss defender Christoph Metzelder in the next match. The good news for Real fans is that Gabriel Heinze has recovered from his knee injury and is expected to be back with the crucial match against Lazio. Sergio Ramos and Fabio Cannavaro will throw hard challenge to the forwards of Lazio. Captain Raul and Robinho will make up the Real Madrid forward line up along with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Júlio Baptista. So, Real Madrid seems enough strong to face Lazio.

Lazio coach has expressed that his team will need a miracle at Spain to outperform the Spanish giant Real Madrid. Lazio defender Valon Behrami is unlikely to take part in the crucial encounter due to muscle injury. Guglielmo Stendardo, Fabio Firmani and Goran Pandev also have minor injury but, they are expected to appear against Real Madrid on Tuesday. Captain Luciano Zauri will be back in the side after missing the previous Champions league match.

According to Goal.com the probable line up of Real Madrid and Lazio:
