Everton is going to face second-placed Arsenal on 29 December. The match will take place at the Everton home ground, Goodison Park. Arsenal has recently lost their leading place to Manchester United after being held to a goal less draw with Portsmouth. Though they are still within a point of Manchester United and breathing on the neck of Manchester United, the pressure is mounting on them. In the contrary, Everton is not in the title race as they are now aiming to finish the season 5th in the league point table in order to ensure their UEFA Cup appearance next year.

Everton vs Arsenal match will definitely be a crucial one for both Arsenal and Everton as both teams are facing strong challenge in their way to reach their goals. Arsenal is facing strong challenges from the defending champion Manchester Untied. Moreover, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in the championship race being at the third and fourth place respectively in the league table. So, it seems that the championship race can take a dramatic turn any time this season as the race is still open for the Big Four. That is why; any further slip up would see Arsenal lagging behind in the championship race. So, the every single match is now a ‘must win’ match for them,

However, Everton stands sixth in the league standing with 33 points from 19 matches. It is almost certain that they are now out of the title race. However, finishing 4th this season is still an achievable target for Everton that will make sure their entrance into the third qualifying round of UEFA Champions League next season. To do that, Everton has to leave Liverpool and Manchester City behind them in the league table. At least, winning the fifth place is now very much realistic for Everton.

End of Arsenal Magic?

Well, you may argue that Arsenal’s success is not a magic at all. They have been consistently performing in the last decade and they are considered to be one of the best English clubs ever with 13 league titles to their credit. Yes, that is true. However, it is also true that there were many who wrote off Arsenal having any possibility to win the title this season since Thierry Henry’s move to Barcelona earlier this season.

There is enough logic as well. If you look back to the last few seasons, you can see Thierry Henry was the part and parcel of the side bringing many successes for Arsenal. So, there was not enough ground to predict that the youngsters like Emmanuel Adebayor, Emmanuel Eboué, Cesc Fàbregas would lead Arsenal for the championship fight. Arsenal scored in every premier league matches of this season except their last match against Portsmouth.

Now, the question is that if it is the end of Arsenal magic. Actually, I think, Arsenal needs a quality goal scorer. In their last match, they created quite a few chances that all went in vein due to lack of a quality finisher. Now, you can make me aware of the fact that Emmanuel Adebayor is now the second highest goal scorer of this season with 10 goals to his credit. However, Arsenal suffered a lot for a quality striker in their last match against Portsmouth even though Adebayor was in the field. He is yet to have the ability to carry the responsibility of a long range forward. Moreover, forward Robin van Persie is suffering from a knee injury for a long time whereas Theo Walcott is suffering from illness that has kept him out in their last two matches.

There is report out regarding manager Arsene Wenger having no interest in singing any new player in January transfer even though the club has enough cash to buy new players. It is true that he has been successful with this young side but the situation is a bit different now as some of the key players are out of the squad because of injury and Kolo Touré and Alex Song will leave the club to take part in the African Nations Cup. So, it will be difficult to keep a balance in the squad. However, Tomáš Rosický and Aliaksandr Hleb have been playing a great job in the Arsenal midfield whereas Captain William Gallas and Gaël Clichy have been impressive so far this season in the defense of Arsenal.

Now, ahead of the match against Everton, I am not sure yet if Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott will become fit to take part in the match. Their absence was felt in their last match as they missed some easy chances to score and eventually lost two points getting down in the league point table.

Everton in a Steady Run

Everton has been in impressive form this season. Everton lost only once in their last five matches in English Premier League. In their recent 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers showed their great form. Captain Phil Neville scored in their 2-0 victory. Australian international Tim Cahill has scored eight goals this season for Everton. However, Nigerian forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored nine times this season. He is now in the This forward has also helped Everton to bring out superb performance this season.

Now, Everton will face Arsenal in this Saturday. Last week, they faced Manchester Untied that they lost by 1-2. Now, it will be a real challenge for Everton as Arsenal is one of the Big Four teams.
