India in Sri Lanka 2008: MS Dhoni has opted out from Test Squad

Indian cricket team will tour to Sri Lanka later of this month to play a three-match Test series against host team Sri Lanka. This series is scheduled to start from 18th July, 2008. Ahead of the Test series, Indian cricket board has announced a 16-member ODI squad where the most dependable player MS Dhoni is missing from the Test squad. India’s limited-over captain MS Dhoni has opted out of the Idea Cup-three Test series in Sri Lanka. Dhoni spoke about tiredness in the mid-way through the recently held Asia Cup in Pakistan. This batting sensation made his debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka and since his debut he has played 29 Tests, 115 ODIs, 10 Twenty20 Internationals and DLF-IPL T20 for Chennai Super Kings in just three and a half years.

MS Dhoni himself appealed for the rest from the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The Chief Administrative officer of BCCI, Ratnakar Shetty, said that Dhoni need a rest and the board has acceded his request. However, he welcomed the BCCI’s policy for allowing players choice to set out when they feel tired and ask for rest.

Tow wicket-keepers have been selected for that series they are Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel. They are promising not to feel the lack of a wicket-keeper cum batsman in the national side.
