Australia vs India 3rd Test: Match report of the first day

Australia vs India 3rd Test has already started at W.A.C.A, Perth. Now, it is the most important match for both teams as host Australia team is seeking their 17th consecutive Test win in a row. On the other hand, India team is trying hard to stop Australia team. It is not sure that what will happen as today was the first day of the five-day Test match.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Anil Kumble elected to bat first and made 297 for 6 in the first innings.

After one year, Indian out form batsman Virender Sehwag has got chance in the main squad of India team. He made open with Wasim Jaffer in the first innings. However, he could not show any impressive performance in the first innings. He compiled 29 runs where he hit 6 boundaries and made 57 runs partnership in opening pair. First two batsmen could not bring anything good for Indian team. Wasim Jaffer again showed his bad in Australia tour. Wall of India team Rahul Dravid and record maker Sachin Tendulkar set India in a plat form after scoring two half-centuries. But a poor decision from Asad Rauf stopped him increasing his record. He departed for 71. It was his 87th Test fifty. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid, who was dropped a catch in the second slip when he was 11, missed his 25th Test fifty only for 7 runs after becoming the victim of Symonds.

India had gone to tea on 177 for 2 with Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar in good form. A delivery from Brett Lee thudded into the flap of Tendulkar’s pad. However, it was strong appeal from Australia team and umpire Asad Rauf had a think then raised his finger. Sourav Ganguly was aggressive from first. He started his innings with a lovely off-drive off Clark, but Michael Hussey stopped him taking an unbelievable catch in short. He scored 9 runs including two boundaries.

Suddenly 198 for 2 had become 214 for 4, and Australia’s effort with the ball and tireless commitment in the field had its reward. Then India still hoped to make a big innings as VVS Laxman was in field. But he could not make any resistance against Aussies bowlers. Brett Lee finished his day taking the wicket of Laxman.

Now, two fresh batsmen MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan were in stupm with equal score of 8. Tomorrow India will bat again and try to make big innings as early as possible.
