Sri Lanka vs India 1st Test 2008: Match report of the first day

Today the first Test of the three-match Test series between Sri Lanka vs India began at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo. Rain delayed the start of play on the opening day. Heavy rain and wet ground allowed only 22 over to be bowled in just 2 hours. Host team could earn 85 for 2. Sri Lankan skipper won the toss and elected to bat first against India. Sri Lanka lost their opening wicket of Michael Vandort with the total in 7 runs that fall them under pressure. He was caught by wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik off Ishant Sharma for 3 facing 13 balls. Then wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara and Malinda Warnapura made a 50 runs partnership but comeback seamer left-armer Zaheer Khan Break throw this partnership after taking the most important wicket of Kumar Sangakkara. He was trapped by catch out at slip by Rahul Dravid. Malinda Warnapura mad his third test fifty and first against India. He has scored unbeaten 50 off just 74 balls with six boundaries.

Ishant Sharma showed his superb form and bowled tidily. He finished the day with 1-21 after seven overs while Zaheer Khan claimed 1-42. Indian captain played four bowlers in this day. They are Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. However, match will start half hour early on the remaining four days to cover the loss of hours due to rain on the day.
