Champions League 2007-08: Liverpool, Real Madrid, FC Porto, Olympiakos and Schalke 04 Confirmed Knockout

Liverpool, Real Madrid, FC Porto, Olympiakos and Schalke 04 have confirmed their entrance into the knock out stage of Champions league 2007-2008. All of these clubs have won their last group match in their way to next round. Now, Group A, Group B and Group C have got their final standing after the matches held on Tuesday.

Liverpool has roared past French club Olympique Marseille with a 4-0 victory and thus confirmed their place in the knock out stage from Group A. For Liverpool, it was a do or die match as they had to win the match to ensure a place in the next round Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt scored for Liverpool in this crucial match. From the same group, FC Porto has secured the top place and got into the top 16 of Champion League 2007-2008. Porto defeated Besiktas with R.Quaresma and L.González scoring once.

In Group B, there were also two matches in which Chelsea vs Valencia match was unimportant as Chelsea had earlier confirmed their next round and Valencia had already been out of the competition. The match ended with a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. However, in the other match between Schalke 04 and Rosenborg was an interesting one to experience. German club Schalke 04 has won the crucial match in the way to confirm their knockout stage. In their three 3-1 win over Rosenborg, G.Asamoah, Rafinha and K.Kuranyi scored for Schalke 04 and Y.Koné scored the consolidating goal for Norwegian club Rosenborg.

From group C, Real Madrid and Olympiacos have got into the next round as both the teams have won their final group match. Real Madrid has projected a 3-1 win over Lazio with Robinho magic as he scored once and made up two other for Raul and J.Baptista. G.Pandev scored the only goal for Lazio. In the other match of this group, Olympiakos defeated Werder Bremen at the home ground by 3-0 as I.Stoltidis scored twice for the home team. D.Kovacevics scored the other for Olympiakos.

There are some more matches of other groups today. Two more slots are yet to fill out in knock out stage. The two lucky teams will be decided after the end of today’s matches of Champions League 2007-2008. I hope, you will enjoy today’s matches.
